Honoring Legacy and Remembrance: AGBU AVC Commemorative Webinar 

In observance of the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and the 120th anniversary of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), the AGBU Armenian Virtual College (AVC) hosted an exclusive webinar on April 26 highlighting AGBU’s vital humanitarian role during World War I.

Titled “AGBU 120: The AGBU’s Mission During World War 1,” the webinar was led by a distinguished guest and renowned historian Dr. Raymond Kevorkian.

Dr. Kevorkian is the co-author of "The Armenian General Benevolent Union: One Hundred Years of History,"  originally published in print to commemorate AGBU’s centenary in 2006. The e-book version of the two-volume set was developed by AVC for AGBU’s 110th anniversary. 

During the webinar, Dr. Kevorkian shared invaluable insights into AGBU’s historical impact and enduring mission during one of the darkest chapters in Armenian history.

AGBU Vice President and AGBU AVC Founding President Dr. Yervant Zorian noted in his opening remarks that, “this 120th anniversary was once again an opportunity to look back and reflect on how AGBU, while always remaining devoted to the same mission — preserving identity and promoting benevolence — has, through its flexible and adaptive approach, been able to align its efforts with the evolving needs of our nation throughout history.”

Dr. Raymond Kevorkian took the audience through the history and examples of how AGBU became a lifeline for the Armenian people, organized critical relief efforts, and helped lay the groundwork for survival. 

The attendees had an opportunity to ask questions, and an active discussion followed.
